ISO 27090 Project Plan Generator
Adopting ISO/IEC 27090 is a seven-phase project: mobilise, scope and inventory your AI, assess AI-specific threats, design controls, implement them, test and keep evidence, then review. Enter your organisation size, how many AI systems are in scope, whether you already hold ISO/IEC 27001 or ISO/IEC 42001, and your target date, and get the tasks, a RACI, the deliverables and a timeline that says whether the date is realistic.
Planning aid only. ISO/IEC 27090 is guidance, not a certifiable standard, so this plan does not end in a “27090 certificate”. Durations are a heuristic, not a benchmark.
Your organisation
Timeline
Some phases overlap on purpose: threat assessment starts while the inventory is finishing, and testing starts on the first controls before implementation ends.
Get a sponsor, an owner and a budget, and agree that ISO/IEC 27090 is guidance you will apply inside your existing management systems.

TL;DRWhat this planner gives you
5 points
- A phased plan for adopting ISO/IEC 27090 guidance: mobilise, scope and inventory, threat assessment, control design, implementation, testing and evidence, review and improve.
- Set your organisation size, the number of AI systems in scope, whether you already hold ISO/IEC 27001 or ISO/IEC 42001, and your start and target dates. The plan rescales and tells you whether the date is realistic.
- Every phase lists its tasks with a RACI across seven roles, its deliverables, and dates on a Gantt-style timeline. Export to Markdown or CSV.
- An existing 27001 ISMS or 42001 AIMS shortens the plan, because the risk method, Statement of Applicability, AI inventory and management review already exist.
- ISO/IEC 27090 is guidance, not a certifiable standard. The plan ends in a management review and, if you want a certificate, an ISO/IEC 27001 or 42001 audit.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to implement ISO/IEC 27090?
It depends on how many AI systems are in scope and what you already have. As a planning heuristic, a mid-size organisation with a handful of AI systems and an existing ISO/IEC 27001 ISMS is looking at roughly five to six months from mobilisation to the first management review; without 27001 or 42001, or with dozens of AI systems, it takes longer. These are indicative figures for planning, not a benchmark: use the generator to see how your inputs change it.
Does this plan lead to ISO 27090 certification?
No, because there is no such thing. ISO/IEC 27090 is guidance on addressing security threats and compromises to AI systems; it has no certifiable requirements. The plan ends with a management review and, if you want an auditable certificate, a step to plan an ISO/IEC 27001 (information security) or ISO/IEC 42001 (AI management system) audit with an accredited certification body.
Why does holding ISO/IEC 27001 or 42001 shorten the plan?
Because you reuse what they already gave you. A 27001 ISMS brings a risk assessment method, a risk register, a Statement of Applicability and an internal audit programme. A 42001 AIMS brings an AI system inventory, AI impact assessments and an AI-focused management review. ISO/IEC 27090 guidance plugs into those rather than replacing them, so mobilisation, scoping and control design move faster.
What are the phases of an ISO 27090 project?
Seven: mobilise (sponsor, owner, budget), scope and inventory (which AI systems, an AI bill of materials, provider or deployer role), threat assessment (AI-specific threats mapped to confidentiality, integrity and availability, into the risk register), control design (risk treatment, policy, mapping to Annex A), implementation (controls, monitoring, incident response, supplier terms), testing and evidence (adversarial testing, retests, an evidence log) and review and improve (internal audit, management review, next cycle).
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The plan is computed in your browser from the inputs you enter, and the Markdown and CSV exports are created on your device.
