PE Portfolio Cyber Scorecard

Score every portfolio company on the same controls — MFA and EDR coverage, overdue critical vulnerabilities, tested backups, a tested incident-response plan, recent pen testing and cyber insurance — and see portfolio averages, who is below baseline and which companies to fix first.

Template & sample only — a structured starting point with sample content, not legal, audit, certification or investment advice. Subscribers customise it with their own details and generate the document for their own work.

TL;DR

What this template gives you

  • A fund needs one comparable view of cyber risk across very different portfolio companies — not twelve different reports.
  • One row per company: MFA %, EDR %, overdue critical vulnerabilities, backup restore tested, IR plan tested, last pen test, cyber insurance and owner.
  • The summary computes portfolio averages, counts companies below baseline (MFA under 95%, EDR under 90% or untested backups) and names the weakest companies with their gaps.
  • A 12-item checklist covers the fund’s own governance: minimum standard, diligence, incident notification, retainers and exit readiness.

Frequently asked questions

Which cyber metrics should a private-equity fund track across its portfolio?

A small set that is comparable across companies and predicts loss: MFA coverage, endpoint detection coverage, overdue critical vulnerabilities, whether backups have actually been restored in a test, whether the incident-response plan has been exercised, the date of the last penetration test, and insurance status. More metrics usually means less comparable data.

Can we rely on self-reported scores?

Treat them as a starting point. Sample-verify them each year — ask for evidence such as an MFA enrolment report or a restore-test record, or commission an independent check — and record the data source on the scorecard so readers know how much weight to give it.

Is this a finished document I can rely on?

No. Every tool in this suite is a template with sample content. It gives you a structured, editable starting point and generates a document from your own answers, but it is not legal, audit, certification, investment or professional advice. Review and adapt the output, and have it checked by the appropriate specialist before you rely on it.

Who can use it?

The page and sample are public. Customising the template with your own details and exporting the generated document (Word, PDF, Markdown, CSV) is part of any PlayCISO paid plan. Your work is saved in your own browser.
